Common drain problems in Lacey homes
Almost all of Lacey’s housing sits in a narrow coastal band at Forked River and Lanoka Harbor, much of it on low ground with the water table close to the surface. The three things we find most often are sand that has entered through a defect and bedded in the line, roots at joints from decades of mature planting, and grease on lagoon streets with heavy seasonal occupancy.
Why Lacey neighbors call Just Drains
-
We jet sand out of the line completely instead of cabling a channel that closes again.
-
We camera the line and show you the footage, so the repair matches the actual defect.

Drain and sewer service in Lacey, NJ
Lacey is a township of two very different halves. More than ninety-five percent of the housing sits in a narrow coastal band along Forked River and Lanoka Harbor. West of the Garden State Parkway is largely protected Pinelands forest. Almost everything we do here happens in that eastern strip, squeezed between the bay and the pines.
What we handle in Lacey
- Drain cleaning for kitchen, bath and laundry lines
- Main sewer line cleaning from the cleanout to the main
- Camera inspections on lagoon-front and inland properties
- Hydro jetting for grease, sand and root-packed lines
- Sewer line repair and replacement
- Emergency service nights, weekends and holidays
A township built on one narrow strip of buildable ground
Lacey covers a large area on the map and almost none of it is developed. The New Jersey Pinelands Commission lists Lacey among the municipalities inside the state-designated Pinelands Area, and west of the Parkway the township is mostly undisturbed pine and cedar forest. The result is that the housing, the sewer mains, the water lines and the people are all concentrated into the coastal band at Forked River and Lanoka Harbor.
Concentration has consequences for drains. The eastern strip includes bay-front and lagoon streets where the ground sits low and the water table is close to the surface, on the same sandy coastal plain material found throughout this county. In that ground a defect in a buried lateral does not leak outward. It takes groundwater in, and fine sand travels in with the water, settling into a bed inside the pipe while the bedding above the fault erodes away. The line sags, the defect widens, and the blockages get closer together.
The Lacey Municipal Utilities Authority was established in 1971 and provides both water and wastewater service, drawing from seven supply wells across three separate aquifer systems, which is unusual for a system this size. Wastewater is treated at the Ocean County Utilities Authority Central plant. Infrastructure of that era is now over fifty years old in its oldest sections, and the private laterals connected to it vary just as widely.
What we actually find in Forked River and Lanoka Harbor
Three things, in rough order of frequency. Sand in the line, which is the signature problem of low-lying sandy ground and which cabling never really removes. Roots at joints, from mature pines and landscaping on streets that have been established for decades. And grease, particularly on lagoon streets with seasonal occupancy where a house goes from light winter use to a full household in summer.
The reason we jet rather than only cable in this township is the sand. A cable passing through a sand bed bores a channel that closes again as soon as the flow drops. Jetting flushes the material out of the pipe entirely, and the camera afterwards shows where it was getting in. That is the difference between an annual call and a repair.
Septic in the western sections
Away from the sewered coastal band, properties in the sparsely developed western part of the township are on individual systems. We are a drain and sewer company rather than a septic contractor, so on those properties our role is the plumbing between your fixtures and the tank. We camera those lines and give you a clear answer about whether a problem is house-side or beyond it, which decides who you need next.
What Lacey customers say
Barbara Ferenzi had a well pipe failure, which is the kind of problem that stops a household completely until somebody sorts it.

Just Drains
Local tip for Lacey
If your Lacey home is on a lagoon and the sewer line has backed up more than once, stop paying for repeat snaking and get it inspected with a camera. Repeat backups on a short cycle almost always mean sand and groundwater entering through a crack, and no amount of cabling fixes that.

About Lacey Township
Lacey is listed by the New Jersey Pinelands Commission among the municipalities inside the state-designated Pinelands Area, and west of the Garden State Parkway the township is largely undisturbed pine and cedar forest. More than ninety-five percent of its housing sits in the unincorporated communities of Forked River and Lanoka Harbor along the coastal band, with Bamber Lake among the smaller settlements to the west. Lacey drain & sewer questions.
Why does sand keep coming back into my Lacey drain line?
Because it is getting in through a defect rather than down the drain. In low-lying sandy ground with a shallow water table, a crack or open joint admits groundwater, and fine sand travels in with it and settles into a bed. Cabling bores a channel through that bed which closes again as soon as flow drops. Jetting flushes the material out, and a camera afterwards shows the entry point so it can be repaired.
Which parts of Lacey are on public sewer?
Broadly the developed coastal band, meaning Forked River and Lanoka Harbor, where the great majority of the township’s housing sits. The sparsely developed western sections beyond the Parkway are largely protected Pinelands forest, and properties out there are on individual systems. Confirm with the Lacey MUA for your specific address.
Do you service septic systems in Lacey?
No, we are a drain and sewer company rather than a septic contractor. On a property with a septic system we handle the plumbing between your fixtures and the tank, cameras and clearing included, and tell you plainly whether the defect is house-side or in the system beyond it. That stops you paying the wrong trade to investigate the wrong thing.
My drain is worse in summer on a lagoon street. Is that the pipe?
Not necessarily. Seasonal occupancy multiplies the load on a line, and heavier summer cooking puts more grease on the pipe wall. A line with a minor sag or a partial sand bed copes with light winter use and stops coping in season. A camera distinguishes between a pipe that is simply overloaded and one with a defect that needs repair.
Which parts of Lacey do you cover?

WHAT OUR CUSTOMERSARE SAYING.
Hundreds of reviews from neighbors across Monmouth and Ocean County. Real people, real problems solved fast and right.
We recently had our sewer line repaired by Just Drains and the entire experience was excellent from start to finish. The crew was professional, knowledgeable, and took the time to explain the process. They arrived when promised, completed the work efficiently, and left the area clean when they were finished. Highly recommend!
We had to call Just Drains last Sunday. Within an hour, Paul was here. He was able to unclog our line but found a place it was catching. They were able to get a guy here with a camera in the next hour and found our pipe was crushed. A crew was here shortly and spent the next 5 hours hand digging to our crushed pipe. They got the work done, all on a Sunday, and were such kind, friendly guys.
A company who actually means that they’re 24/7 service! I called for an emergency at 11:30pm for a clogged toilet and drain. Within 2 minutes, a text came through stating a technician, Tim, was on the way. He called me directly and gave an ETA, and in less than an hour he arrived. Super friendly, and he saved us from disaster.
For starters it’s great when you can call a company on a Saturday and they answer the phone. They promptly scheduled service for Sunday morning. Their guy showed up right on time. His name was Richie and he did a great job. Great communication from the company start to finish.
Awesome company with awesome staff! Every single person who was involved with my broken sewer pipe was friendly, honest and empathetic. This was a big job with a lot of jackhammering of concrete, cutting of blacktop and so much digging, and they did it all in one day! I could not be more pleased.
I had a plumbing emergency at my elderly parents house, and I called Just Drains in a panic. They responded within an hour. Paul the technician was professional, friendly and incredibly efficient. He fixed the problem quickly without any mess. The pricing was great and no surprise charges.
I called early in the morning regarding a clog in the kitchen sink. Anthony arrived by 11. He was polite and worked neatly. The experience was great and the drain was fixed!
Very happy with the service. Honest and professional. Paul explained exactly what had happened, offered options to address the issue short and long term. Finished the job on time, tested, and cleaned everything after. Highly recommended.
Excellent. We had an emergency at our gym on a Sunday afternoon and they had someone come out within hours of our call and didn’t charge us an arm and a leg for the service.
We had a visit from Just Drains today to unclog the sewer pipe in the house. Paul Fernandez, the technician, was super nice! Very knowledgeable and professional, he explained all the steps of the procedure to clear the sewer blockage, and then executed those steps with a smile. They also gave us suggestions for future maintenance.
I had a sewer pipe issue from the house to the road and you sent out a technician, Anthony, who couldn’t have been more knowledgeable, helpful, kind, understanding and personable. I highly recommend to anyone looking for a drain company to make this call. They were out within a couple of hours after I called and the price was fair.
